Huawei would sign no spy contract

The Huawei logo is seen at a bus stop in Mexico City, Mexico February 22, 2019. "We urge the USA to stop citing security concerns as an excuse to unreasonably suppress Chinese companies and provide a fair and equitable and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese companies to operate in the United States".

And thus the US-China trade war (its not only trade though, is it?) ratchets up a notch or two.

Washington believes equipment made by Huawei could be used by the Chinese state to spy.

The order would also further intensify the trade war between China and the USA, which has been heating up in recent days.

"In addition, unreasonable restrictions will infringe upon Huawei's rights and raise other serious legal issues".

Roger Entner, founder of telecom research firm Recon Analytics, tweeted: "Banning Huawei in the USA has the FCC in a conundrum: Low cost Huawei equipment helps to build out broadband in rural America faster".

As this article was being written, CNBC reported that President Donald Trump had signed an executive order declaring a national emergency over threats to USA technology.

Under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, the president has the authority to regulate business decisions in response to a clear national threat, and the "national emergency" declaration directs the US Department of Commerce to lead enforcement efforts.

The UK, however, didn't impose a complete ban on Huawei but the country said that it has strict controls for how Huawei's equipment is deployed.

"China's main export is espionage, and the distinction between the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese "private-sector" businesses like Huawei is imaginary", Republican Senator Ben Sasse said.

UAE says four vessels targets of 'sabotage' in waters near Fujairah port
The very large crude carrier Amjad and the aframax product tanker Al Marzoqah were reported as the Saudi-owned vessels involved. Although the event didn't result in casualties or a spill, it could still affect the delivery of the oil shipments.

No US government agency can use Huawei's products.

Only about 2 percent of telecom equipment purchased by North American carriers was Huawei-made in 2017. It will take effect in the coming days.

They did not say whether subsidies would be considered.

The Huawei debate has drawn Britain into China's battle for global dominance with the United States.

Prosecutors also charged its chief financial officer with wire fraud and bank fraud and alleged that the company violated sanctions against Iran. The US is seeking to extradite her.

The Executive Order follows the U.S. government leveling a 10-count indictment alleging that Huawei conspired to steal intellectual property from T-Mobile and subsequently obstructed justice, in addition to a separate 13-count indictment against the company and its CFO Meng Wanzhou.

The order does not specifically name any country or company, but US officials have previously labelled Huawei a "threat".

Amid United States pressure on European countries to avoid Huawei, Liang has traveled to the U.K., along with senior Huawei executives, to hold meetings with suppliers and partners to promote Huawei's mobile phone network kit.

Chairman Liang Hua promised Huawei won't do that again and said: "We are willing to sign a no-spy agreement with the United Kingdom government".
