Conway died Tuesday morning in a Los Angeles care facility, according to Howard Bragman, who heads LaBrea Media.
The actor is best known for his work on "The Carol Burnett Show" where he cracked his castmates up with his signature deadpan comic delivery. The ensemble cast included Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner.
Conway won three Emmy awards for acting on the Burnett show and a fourth as a writer in the 1960s and '70s. Asked about the time that he and Charlene visited his father's sister, Madge, he said, "We knocked on the door and I said, 'Madge, I am Sophia and Dan's kid and I would like to say hello to you from my father.' She said, "OK, you did".
Burnett said on Tuesday she was "heartbroken" at Conway's death.
He continued making movies, starring in numerous family feature films, including "The World's Greatest Athlete", "The Apple Dumpling Gang", "Gus", "Dear God", "Speed 2: Cruise Control" and "Air Bud: Golden Receiver".
"Steve [had] the original Tonight Show", said Conway. Born Thomas D. Conway on December 15, 1933, in Willoughby, Ohio, he grew up in the curiously named community of Chagrin Falls, which later inspired his unique comedy routines.
