It would be against the law for Attorney General William Barr to provide Democrats with portions of special counsel Robert Mueller's redacted report, says Gov. John Sununu, former White House chief of staff to President George H.W. Bush.
Exhibit A: Mr. Barr's April 18, 2019 press conference the morning of the Mueller report's release, following his March 24, 2019 letter to Congress summarizing the Mueller Report, was a textbook example of how to control the political narrative, play by the rules (a stark contrast to former FBI director Jim Comey's press conferences clearing Hillary Clinton under a made-up standard, and wrongly announcing the FBI's supposedly private counter-terror investigation into Trump) and not get played by the media.
Mr. McGahn turned down the request because he didn't want to weigh in on the totality of evidence in the report beyond his own testimony, and didn't want to comment on his own testimony in isolation, the people said.
However, McGahn refused Trump's subsequent request to refute press reports of the president's directive, the Mueller report said, cited by Politico.
Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have subpoenaed McGahn for documents and testimony, but McGahn has declined to comply, deferring to the White House. "It was a request, professionally and cordially made".
"Donald Trump Jr. has already testified for more than 27 hours", McCarthy said.

He wrote on Twitter: "The regime kidnapped the first vice president of the National Assembly". The United States government this week threatened to sanction all its members.
"Mr. Trump asked White House officials to make the request to Mr. McGahn", the Times reported on Friday.
House Ways and Means Committee chairman Richard Neal said he subpoenaed Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Internal Revenue Service commissioner Charles Rettig after they missed two congressional deadlines to turn over six years of the president's personal and business tax data.
Mueller's report on the Russian Federation investigation found that Trump had repeatedly ordered McGahn to fire Mueller, but McGahn had refused to do so. Trump claimed he did no such thing, then invoked Executive Privilege with hopes of stopping McGahn from telling Congress his side of the story.
Mueller did not accuse Trump of a crime in his final report, saying he could not charge a sitting president and chose instead to lay out the evidence he had gathered.
In February 2018, Trump pressured McGahn to deny a news report that the president had pressured him to help oust Mueller.
The Judiciary Committee's subpoena demanded McGahn provide the Judiciary Committee with documents related to the investigation by 7 May and to testify before the committee on 21 May. Trump said he never said the word "fire", which McGahn agreed was true, but McGahn said he strongly believed the president's intentions and actions indicated he wanted Mueller removed.
