Felicity Huffman Pleads Guilty to College Admissions Fraud

The test centre where her daughter's exam took place was controlled by Rick Singer, a California-based admissions consultant, who pleaded guilty in March to charges that he facilitated cheating.

In exchange for Huffman's guilty plea, federal prosecutors agreed to recommend incarceration at the "low end" of the sentencing range, a $20,000 fine and 12 months of supervised release, the plea agreement states, according to CNN.

Huffman's sentencing is scheduled for September 13.

Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman has broken down in a USA court as she pleaded guilty over her involvement in a nationwide college admissions scandal. "My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty", Huffman said.

Huffman entered her plea two months after she was arrested in the investigation named "Operation Varsity Blues", which accused wealthy parents of paying bribes to help their children get into elite universities across the country.

Actress Felicity Huffman was also scheduled to plead guilty Monday.

In her statement, the actress admitted to pain and shame, as well as the fact she dragged her daughter, who supposedly didn't know about her actions, down with her.

Parents and college athletic coaches were charged in the scheme, but no children have been accused of committing crimes.

Alyssa Milano's call for 'sex strike' backfires immediately, hilarity ensues
Another critique of Milano's suggestion was that it implies that witholding sex would only be punitive to men, and not to women. Critics of such legislation have argued that many women don't discover that they're pregnant in six weeks.

Lori Loughlin, on the other hand, has pled not guilty to the very same charges, as her attornies explained to her that they have a convincing case to thwart potential imprisonment.

Huffman pleaded guilty in federal court to paying an admissions consultant $US15,000 ($21,600) to have a proctor correct her elder daughter's answers on the SAT university admission test. She also apologized "to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly".

"Everything else Mr. Rosen said I did, I did", she said.

Huffman was a star of the Desperate Housewives TV show, which won her an Emmy Award in 2005.

Huffman's daughter was reportedly unaware of her mother's involvement in the scheme.

Experts differ on whether Huffman's swift acceptance of responsibility will leave her with an acting career.

Huffman, 56, pleaded guilty on Monday to allegations she paid a fake charity $15,000 to rig her daughter's SAT score in a bid to secure her a spot in a prominent university.

Loughlin and Giannulli were among the parents who did not plead guilty initially, and now face an indictment for money laundering in addition to the original fraud charge. A limited series featuring Huffman on the Central Park Five case is expected to debut this month.
