Samsung to delay launch of the Galaxy Fold phone

The report comes hours after Samsung postponed an April 24 China launch event for the Galaxy Fold.

AT&T, one of Samsung's US launch partners for the Galaxy Fold, said the carrier was working to communicate with customers who pre-ordered the device as soon as possible.

But reviewers said removing the plastic film from the interior screen made the phone unusable - although keeping it on did not seem to prevent other devices from breaking, either.

Last week, news broke that the Samsung Galaxy Fold could be in serious trouble. Several publications, including Bloomberg News, had reported a bevy of problems with test versions of the $1,980 device after only days of use.

The $2,000 Samsung Galaxy Fold was slated to come out April 26 in the US.

"We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold", the company said.

Samsung's US launch partners for the Galaxy Fold, AT&T and T-Mobile did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Some reviewers removed this front protective layer before their screens died. But Samsung announced Monday that it's delaying the release after reviewers found problems with the phone's screen.

When attempting to log into a Samsung Account through the Galaxy Wearable app, the companion application for all of Samsung's recent wearable devices, only a white screen is visible. It was supposed to be a triumph of Samsung's display technology-a product years in the making that would redefine the smartphone.

The Samsung official on Monday said the firm was thoroughly investigating the damage reports as previously announced, and declined to comment on whether there would be any change to the USA release date.
