Walt Disney Co yesterday said its new family-friendly streaming service will cost US$7 (RM28.72) monthly or US$70 annually with a slate of exclusive TV shows and movies from some of the world's most popular entertainment franchises in a bid to challenge the digital dominance of Netflix. That's a lot of blockbuster's and childhood memories right there, and Disney was finally ready to unveil the first look at the platform today and we will all see what they have ready to go up against Netflix, Amazon Prime and more on November 12, 2019 - and for the low cost of $6.99.

In its first year, Disney+ will feature a giant library its content from the previously mentioned studios along with content from Disney Channel and, most importantly, The Simpsons!

The Disney+ service will be available on a wide range of mobile and connected devices and content will also be available to fans for offline viewing. "Forky Asks a Question" will be an animated short series and "Lamp Life" will be another Pixar animated short film.

But now movies that came out in 2019, and going forward, will be streamed only on Disney Plus. The company also showed off the Falcon and Winter Soldier spinoff, announced an MCU series called WandaVision that will focus on Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and it announced a new show from Jeff Goldblum produced by National Geographic. Apple Inc, AT&T Inc's WarnerMedia and others plan new streaming services. Disney also owns a controlling stake in streaming service Hulu. Nonfiction series also announced earlier this week include Be Our Chef, Cinema Relics: Iconic Art of the Movies (working title), Earthkeepers (working title), Encore!

Subscribers to Disney+ will be able to set up different profiles for those living under one roof.

We have known that Disney was planning to launch its own dedicated streaming service for quite some time. The company also recently acquired 21st Century Fox, which means it can now develop content based on such franchises as Avatar, The Simpsons and the X-Men. For that price, customers will get access to content from the Star Wars universe, Marvel, Pixar, Disney, and National Geographic.

What If is happening: As reported last month, Marvel is adding an animated series, What If, based on the comics of the same name to the Disney+ series.

Other original titles include Diary of a Female President, Noelle, Togo, Timmy Failure, and Stargirl.

Disney said movies would become available on its streaming service only after the traditional theatrical release period and home movie debut, which includes DVDs and purchasing streaming videos.
