"As part of this effort, we're making progress on the 737 MAX software update that will prevent accidents like these from ever happening again", the CEO said in his statement.

The filing at a Chicago federal court alleges that the aerospace company defrauded investors over the safety features of Boeing's 737 Max aircraft which was involved in two fatal crashes: one in Ethiopia last month and another in Indonesia a year ago.

It follows an earlier disaster in October when a 737 Max 8 flown by Indonesian airline Lion Air crashed, claiming the lives of 189 people. Boeing hasn't disclosed any lost orders, although Garuda Indonesia has said it will cancel an order for 49 Max jets. The lawsuit seeks damages for Boeing stock investors from January 8 to March 21.

Ethiopia, Indonesia and at least five other major regulators are expected to join the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) review panel on the Boeing 737 MAX, officials said on Tuesday.

Orders and deliveries of Boeing's 737 Max plunged in the first quarter as the plane was grounded around the world following a second deadly crash.

The Boeing Company said it delivered 149 commercial planes and 60 aircraft in its defence operations in the first quarter of 2019.

So far, most of Wall Street and Boeing's airline customers have publicly stood behind the company during its crisis. Boeing also halted deliveries and announced last week that it was scaling back production of the 737 Max. A total of 346 passengers and crew died in the crashes. It has been actively communicating with Boeing concerning the issue, a senior manager said, and before any future moves are made, it must be determined whether the aircraft has a serious design flaw. Boeing has a backlog of about 4,600 orders for the plane. That's because Boeing spent most of 2017 ramping up production of the Max.

Also on Tuedsday, American Airlines trimmed its first-quarter forecast for unit revenue as it cancelled hundreds of flights during the period, mainly due to the groundings of its 24 Max planes, according to Reuters.
