Cheaper Google Pixel phones might be on their way

As of the past week, we're on to Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL as possibilities.

As first spotted by 9to5Google, the Pixel 3a packs a Snapdragon 670 coupled with 4GB RAM. Both phones will feature Active Edge.

For the rest, it is the 3a that we have the most information on. Thanks to a new report today from Android Police, that uncertainty is being laid to rest.

The latest Android Q Beta 1 update revealed the names for the mid-range Pixel devices as Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.

The differences between the 3a and 3a XL (beyond size) are not known yet. And will the price tag that arrives with it make the wait worth it?

9to5Google was also able to confirm some of the specs for the two new devices.

Pixels 3 and 3XL should have small brothers. The Pixel phones have been known for their superior imaging capabilities and according to sources, the 12MP rear sensor of the Pixel 3a outputs similar image quality as the Pixel 3. Comparing this to the Pixel 3s 5.5” 18:9 screen suggests we may be looking at a notch.

Other pictures go on to show the Pixel 3 Lite next to the original Pixel, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 5S, and Nokia 3310.

Google hasn't done a mid-range phone yet, bet it for the dearly departed Nexus line or the younger Pixel brand.

As you can see from the photos, the Pixel 3 Lite looks a lot like the regular Pixel 3. The device will be backed by a 3,000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging using the USB-C port.

Surprisingly enough, we weren't expecting the devices to feature an OLED panel because if Google were to reduce costs, the immediate choice would be to incorporate an LCD screen.
