Loughlin and fellow actress Felicity Huffman headline the list of some 50 people charged in documents unveiled in Boston that describe a scheme to cheat the admissions process at eight sought-after schools.

She didn't have to enter a plea and her release has been ordered, pending a $250,000 bail payment.

In a Boston federal court on Tuesday, the ringleader confessed to leading the scam, which involved paying other people to take entrance exams for clients' children, bribing coaches to claim certain applicants as members of their collegiate teams, and a whole lot more. The indictment of wealthy Californians has provided ammunition for the Trump administration in its feud with the Hollywood elite.

At a brief court appearance on Wednesday, Ms Loughlin was released on $US1 million bail after being charged with helping her daughters cheat their way into a high-profile California university.

Loughlin became famous as the wholesome Aunt Becky in the 1980s and '90s sitcom "Full House". She will have to surrender her passport in December when her projects in Canada are completed, according to TMZ. Singer allegedly helped parents "take staged photographs of their children engaged in particular sports", and in other instances used stock photos by "sometimes Photoshopping the face of the child on the athlete, and submitting it".

The former "Full House" star was in Vancouver Tuesday filming a TV movie for the network when Federal Bureau of Investigation agents showed up at the L.A. home she owns with her husband, Mossimo clothing founder Mossimo Giannulli, to arrest the couple for their role in a sweeping college bribery scam.

The fraud scheme was run out of a small college preparation company in Newport Beach, California, that relied on bribes to sports coaches, phoney test takers and even doctored photos to land college slots, United States prosecutors said on Tuesday. Well, he has not been indicted yet, but charges could be on the way as he allegedly also made the donation to the fake charity.
