Disney-Marvel Studios' "Captain Marvel" had a huge opening weekend, grossing $153 million in its domestic debut. Their invaluable work often goes unnoticed in conversations regarding the success of tent-pole releases like Captain Marvel. It was also the second most successful for any superhero pic behind Avengers: Infinity War ($640.5 million), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It's the sixth largest worldwide debut ever. The end credits also teased the pre-existing Nick Fury and Carol Danvers relationship that was explored in Captain Marvel.

Overall, it's the sixth-best worldwide opener of all time, beating out the global debuts other smash hits such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($281 million). Despite trolls continuing to post negative reviews, audiences overwhelmingly loved it, giving the film an A Cinemascore, with 80 percent of critics liking it as well, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
