The Los Angeles Lakers and Carmelo Anthony have put their contract talks on pause unless they turnaround their season back towards a playoff spot. Los Angeles is 30-33 and 10th in the Western Conference.

Woj reports that the Lakers had been "leaning toward signing Anthony for the rest of the season", but the move now seems uneccesary given the current state of the team. Anthony was traded to the Chicago Bulls in January, but was waived on February 1. After refusing to take a bench role with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he was then traded to the Atlanta Hawks.

Anthony has had a whirlwind time since the summer.

Before the 2018-19 season, Anthony signed a one-year, $2.4 million minimum deal to team up with James Harden and Chris Paul in Houston.

Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo was shown sitting away from teammates after being subbed out during Los Angeles' 115-99 loss to the Nuggets on Wednesday night at the Staples Center.

He has averaged 24 points a game in his 15 National Basketball Association seasons. "There are obviously things that need to be worked out on both sides".

"I liked how we played for most of the game, aside from the stretch where they just got out and ran and scored at will", Denver coach Michael Malone said.

While it may have made sense earlier in the season, at this point in time it is quite possible that the addition of Anthony would cause more problems for the Lakers than it would fix.
