Modi is under heavy pressure from his supporters to punish Pakistan for the suicide attack. "Does Modi ji have the guts to ask Saudi Arabia to suspend aid to Pakistan due to its role in the Pulwama terror attack", Surjewala said on Wednesday. Importantly, the two sides also "underlined the importance of comprehensive sanctioning of terrorists and their organisations by the UN", in what seems a veiled reference to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar.

Prime Minister Modi "welcomed the announcement of [the] crown prince to invest $100 billion in India in a range of areas like energy, refining, petrochemicals, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, etc.", T.S. Thirumurthy, secretary for economic relations at the Indian foreign ministry, told journalists in New Delhi.

Both leaders called upon all countries to renounce the use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy.

On regional connectivity projects, both sides agreed that they should be based on global law, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, the joint statement said.

The Saudi crown prince, who is also the Saudi defense minister, arrived in India for a one-day visit on Tuesday evening.

"India and Saudi Arabia know what they want from each other: India will be looking for a leverage on oil pricing while Saudi Arabia, which is trying to diversify its economy, is looking at access to rising India's market", he added.

Government sources cited the Crown Prince's prompt response to Modi's demand to buttress the point that there is a strong bonhomie between the him and the Indian PM, "which would go a long way in dealing with Pakistan in the context of India's fight against terrorism".

Affirming that the menace of extremism and terrorism threatens all nations and societies, the two sides rejected any attempt to link this universal phenomenon to any particular race, religion or culture.

MBS came to India a day after he visited the Saudi kingdom's close ally Pakistan.

"With the leadership of India's President and India's Prime Minister, I am sure we can create good things for Saudi Arabia and India", he added. China has blocked this motion at the U.N. The crown prince also pledged $20 billion of investments.

"It is extremely important to eliminate the terror infrastructure and stop support to terrorists and their supporters".

He did not mention the attack on Indian soldiers, but at a joint press appearance with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi he said "we reaffirm to India that we are ready to work in the intelligence sharing and political arenas to coordinate our efforts on terrorism".

"Both sides agreed on the need for creation of conditions necessary for resumption of the comprehensive dialogue", he said.

The investments would include $12 billion that is going into the Ratnagiri project.
