How to see the year's biggest supermoon

Stargazers can prepare themselves for the biggest and brightest moon of the year tomorrow as a "super snow moon" is set to light up the winter sky.

Astrologer Richard Nolle defined the term back in 1979 as a "new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit".

Attention US-based skywatchers! February 19 will be the flawless day to gaze upon the Earth's lunar satellite, thanks to a not-so-little thing called the Snow Supermoon. It will also look huge - due to how close it is to earth.

Although forecasts suggest that flakes may not start falling until early Wednesday, snow clouds could start streaming across our skies before that.

Its closest point is the perigee, which is an average distance of about 226,000 miles (363,300 kilometers) from Earth.

This will be the second time the moon has reached perigee this year. It coincides with the moon being at its perigee, a point in the moon's orbit when its closest to earth, creating a Supermoon.

If you miss this month's supermoon, don't fret, as there is going to be another one on March 21, 2019.
