The Senate will vote on the Green New Deal, a moonshot plan by Democrats to combat climate change, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday, announcing a move created to force Senate Democrats - including a cast of presidential candidates - into a political bind.

It's being pushed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a freshman Democrat from NY who has captured the enthusiasm of the left wing.

"I've noted with great interest the Green New Deal and we're going to be voting on that in the Senate", McConnell told reporters Tuesday. The idea, McConnell said, would be to "give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal".

He offered no date for the vote.

"I really don't like their policy of taking away your auto, of taking away your airplane rights", President Donald Trump said at a rally in El Paso, Texas, on Monday, referring to the memo.

"H$3 e's banking on people not being courageous", Ocasio-Cortez told the Washington Post.

"While those things could be *part* of a solution, the GND resolution says they are inadequate as the whole answer".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Manchester United not dead in Europe despite PSG defeat
Pogba received a second yellow card in the final minute, meaning he will miss the second leg in three weeks. A repeat of that 3-0 win in Paris next month would take United through to the quarterfinals.

The Green New Deal House resolution introduced last week calls for the elimination of USA greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through massive investments in clean energy sources and millions of jobs.

Trump has frequently expressed doubt about climate change and said he does not believe action is needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. "I support a green new deal".

In addition, the bill lays out some lofty goals that could require massive, difficult-to-administer new programs, like a job guarantee and a plan to upgrade every building in the country for energy efficiency. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).

The resolution is expected to fail in the Senate. Still, from the support it's received among 2020 hopefuls, it appears that the Green New Deal will be a serious factor in the primary - as a talking point, if not policy proposal.

"Along with abolishing farting cows, beefing up high-speed rail so that airplanes can be banned is a key element in the proposal, " the National Republican Congressional Committee said Tuesday. In July 2017, Republicans forced a vote on a single-payer health care system.

With the longest-serving Senate GOP leader, Mitch McConnell's six-year term in the Senate set to expire in January of 2021, Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer is already looking for his opponent. McConnell's aim is to split Democrats between the left-leaning members vying for the passions of their party's base and more moderate senators who view the proposal as radical and disruptive. In a statement to CNBC, her office said, "McConnell thinks he can end all debate on the Green New Deal now and stop this freight train of momentum".
