The French full-back posted on social media platform Instagram that he was at Hong Kong International Airport and when that was brought to Guardiola's attention, the manager signalled his surprise by swearing live on camera.
Benjamin Mendy tagged himself at the Hong Kong airport in an Instagram story on Friday morning.
Asked if either would be foot for the weekend, Guardiola said: "No". F***, he's a lucky guy. He said he was going to Paris but Hong Kong - I don't know/ I have to understand Instagram.
But he later uploaded a video in a vehicle with the location set as Hong Kong International Airport, something which prompted Guardiola to swear on live television after he was questioned about Mendy's whereabouts in a pre-match press conference. Informed of the news at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Guardiola looked shocked: 'In Hong Kong? "I don't know. I have to install an Instagram account because I didn't know".
He is not yet fit to return to action ahead of City's clash with Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League, and as such was given the green light by Guardiola to make a trip to Barcelona and Paris in a bid to regain his fitness.

The incident provided a moment of levity in what is developing into an intense title race - one that has seen City take over from Liverpool at the top of the table on goal difference after wins over Arsenal and Everton in the past week.
It is not the first time Mendy's social media usage has got him into hot water with Guardiola this season. "We have to play in that way", the City manager said.
It concludes with another hard game against a Chelsea side that beat City 2-0 in December at Stamford Bridge. "In the last three years they won and the best team in Europe in the last decade is Real Madrid".
"His injury is not easy, meniscus external, and it's not easy", Guardiola said.
He appeared as a second-half substitute in City's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg win over Burton on January 23 but has missed the last four games as his comeback is carefully managed. 'Liverpool are exceptional. I don't have the feeling (Jurgen) Klopp, (Virgil) Van Dijk, (Mo) Salah and Sadio (Mane) feel pressure.
