Experts say today's record-breaking USA drug bust with methylamphetamine meant for Australia is proof the world's drug barons are targetting Down Under. (Australian Federal Police) Police said the drugs carried a street value of $1.29 billion.

Australian authorities said it was also the largest haul of the drug intercepted while bound for Australia and would have provided around 17 million hits of the substance also known as ice.

Australian police have arrested six people in Victoria and New South Wales after the biggest seizure of crystal methamphetamine in USA history.

They are believed to be involved with the US -based transnational crime syndicate suspected of conducting the record shipment.

A record setting 1.7 tons of meth, worth a staggering $1.3 billion, has been found hidden in a speaker shipment bound for Australia from the United States.

"Hundreds of thousands of dollars of proceeds of crime was located during the search warrant in Woodstock, and about 6.5kg of (meth) was found at a property in Keilor Downs", police said in a statement.
