Bobby Portis will be a restricted free agent this summer and was originally a first-round draft choice of the Bulls in 2015. He has shot 36.9 percent from 3-point range. They traded Otto Porter to the Chicago Bulls for Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker, and sent Markieff Morris to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for swingman Wesley Johnson. Perhaps a change of scenery will do Porter good.

- The Washington Wizards decided they needed to shake things up with All-Star point guard John Wall out for the season. Wall will miss a full 12 months while recovering, essentially sending Washington into a rebuild that included sending out Porter and his max contract.

Portis is averaging 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds in 24.1 minutes this season.

Porter has a hefty contract, owed almost $27.3 million in 2019-'20 before holding a player option for almost $28.5 million in 2020-'21.

Portis had spent all four of his National Basketball Association seasons with the Bulls.

The Philadelphia 76ers made somewhat of a splash by acquiring Tobias Harris from the Los Angeles Clippers to boost their already loaded starting five, and now the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls have gotten into the trade action as well.

Beal is also averaging 5.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists. His role was limited when Jim Boylen took over as head coach and, despite a nice stretch over the last two weeks, was never going to be a long-term fit. Thus, it can be expected that the front office views Porter Jr.as a solution at small forward. Parker is averaging 14.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He's got the potential to be a lights-out shooter and has proven that in two different seasons.

The trouble was the Bulls, struggling at 12-41 and having undergone a coaching change this season, weren't considered a possible landing spot for any free agent of outcome.
