Yankees sign DJ LeMahieu, appear out on Manny Machado

This does not definitively close the book on Machado going to NY, which has always been viewed as his ideal landing spot.

It has been more than three weeks since Machado met with the Yanks in NY, and Jack Curry of the YES Network reports that there has been barely any communication between the two sides over that period.

Since the Yankees are not in on Bryce Harper (by all appearances, at least), Machado going elsewhere would probably slightly help a dark horse like the Cubs on Harper. And once again, it wasn't Manny Machado.

That means Machado is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies or Chicago White Sox.

China trade talks extended, amid continuing obstacles
As Hu Xijin, the editor-in-chief of China's Global Times newspaper, noted on Twitter , trade issues were addressed "most smoothly".

While the Colorado Rockies have been slow to sign players this offseason - only landing Daniel Murphy so far - they have now lost one of their most key players in DJ LeMahieu. The Phillies reportedly prefer Machado, and their pursuit of the infielder could increase over the next few days.

Throughout the offseason, the Yankees were said to be uninterested in engaging Machado and his agent, Dan Lozano, about a contract in the 10-year, $300 million range and he would only fall to them if the Phillies and White Sox didn't come close to those numbers.

The White Sox are also after Machado but it has been reported by separate outlets that their offer has been for around $200 million and that they haven't yet shown a willingness to go beyond seven years.

In other words, the Phillies either accidentally landed a potential Machado bargaining piece or are making a not-so-subtle push to get the All-Star's attention three weeks after hosting him at Citizens Bank Park.
