Ocasio-Cortez’s Attacks on Democrats Have Party Scrambling for Damage Control

The campaign of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a champion of progressive policies and supposed advocate of the working class, has been fined for not carrying workers' compensation coverage during a period of the campaign a year ago.

The New York legislator has vowed to take on the industry that makes up the corporate backbone for much of her constituency.

The effort, described by almost 20 lawmakers and aides, is part carrot, part stick: Some lawmakers with ties to Ocasio-Cortez are hoping to coax her into using her star power to unite Democrats and turn her fire on Republicans.

During this time, campaign staffers were not covered for injuries received on the job.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has retaliated against fellow Democrat Joe Lieberman, who'd said he didn't see her as the future of the party.

Republicans jumped on the revelations, telling the newspaper that the episode reveals "hypocrisy at its finest" by Ocasio-Cortez.
