Jayme Closs, missing Wisconsin teen, found alive after nearly three months

Our ABC sister station in Minneapolis, KSTP, cites a source saying a woman walking her dog Thursday afternoon was approached by a teenage girl screaming that a man murdered her parents.

Jayme's school district held a "Gathering of Hope" for their missing student at a local high school on 22 October, while a funeral for the Closs parents was held on 27 October.

Jayme was nowhere to be found. He says he did not know the Closses and he stole items that he thought the family wouldn't miss, according to the complaint. Police did not release any other details about the arrest.

Thousands of area residents joined volunteer search parties while investigators fielded thousands of tips, but there had been no sign of Jayme until Thursday's announcement.

Wisconsin investigators see via motion-activated cameras a man in a skull cap break into Jayme's home through a patio door, according to a criminal complaint. "I'm praying she'll be okay and that she can rebuild and live her whole life and follow dreams that she never believed could happen". They offered her water and food, but she declined both. "It was like I was seeing a ghost", her husband, Peter Kasinskas, told the paper. "That was our prayer for so many years and it's my continued prayer for missing kids out there, that many of them are still alive". The Barron County Sheriff's Department confirmed Thursday evening (US time) she was found alive.

Jayme's aunt, Kelly Engelhardt, told KARE 11 that the news is what the family has "prayed for" every day.

"It's the news we've been waiting on for three months". Following her release, Jayme will get the chance to reunite with her family. "And I just shut myself totally down".

The Baron County Sheriff said tonight, the department gets to fulfill the promise they made to bring Jayme home. "It's like taking a big black cloud in the sky and getting rid of it and the sun comes out again".

Jayme's name was added to the top of the FBI's Missing Persons list and has been on digital billboards across the nation since she vanished four months ago.
