The move represents a concession from the USA company, which had previously encouraged iTunes users to buy its £179 Apple TV box as the best way to watch material purchased from its iTunes Store.

TVs made by both companies also gain support for Apple's Homekit smart home ecosystem, which most importantly includes Siri support. Users will be able to access and control multiple TVs around their home, provided all of them support AirPlay 2.

Among Samsung's other TV announcements at CES was the unveiling of a new range of QLED 8K TVs, including a 98in (249 cm) model. Individuals screens could be combined to create massive displays, which the company calls The Wall TV.

That means Samsung televisions will now give users the ability to access the iTunes library, buy or rent movies and TV shows from the store, and watch all the movies and TV shows they've already bought from Apple in the past.

For the first time ever, Apple's iTunes will be accessible on another brand's devices, and that brand is Apple's global rival Samsung. In recent years Apple has taken steps to wean itself off Samsung by developing its own future screen technology and device processors.

Still, a deal with Samsung is even more interesting, as the giant smartphone makers have a complicated history. To be available in more than 100 countries, Samsung also stated that the app will be able to work hand in hand with its Smart TV Service including Universal Guide, New Bixby, and Search.

The Samsung iTunes deal follows on from the recent partnership with Amazon to bring Apple Music streaming to Amazon's Echo smart speakers.

Last week, after Apple shocked investors by saying iPhone sales missed expectations for the holiday quarter, it pointed to record services revenue of US$10.8 billion for the quarter. On top of AirPlay 2, Vizio also promises that HomeKit will be available via an update to this model sometime in Q2 of 2019. But here is the thing: Apple's streaming service is expected to launch sometime this year, and it will compete directly with the likes of Netflix.
