The 39-year-old Kingsbury was sacked as head coach of Texas Tech in November after posting a 35-40 record in six seasons with the Red Raiders. The New York Jets also have interest in Kingsbury.

However, because of the contract he signed with the Trojans and a new rule mandated from the NFL's owners meetings in December, USC was able to block interview requests.

However, with the emergence of Browns interim offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens during the second half of the season, Cleveland no longer has to look for an offensive coach to pair with Mayfield. There were even reports that Kingsbury would pay his own buyout, resign from USC, and pursue National Football League opportunities.

Kingsbury has already spoken with with the Arizona Cardinals since USC chose to allow him to speak to professional teams.

If he has one foot out the door, then they should just officially get rid of him in order to focus on the 2019 campaign.

Kingsbury would certainly break the mold.

During his eight seasons in Lubbock, Kingsbury went 35-40, leading to his firing following Texas Tech's season. However, he was the offensive coordinator for Johnny Manziel's Texas A&M run. The Red Raiders have been in the top 20 in total offense in each of the last four seasons, including No. 1 overall in 2016.
