Kawhi Leonard Gets Booed By Spurs Fans In Return to San Antonio

It's safe to say that the Thursday night showdown between the Toronto Raptors and Spurs at the AT&T Center was one of the most anticipated games of the 2018-19 National Basketball Association season, as Kawhi Leonard (finally) made his long-awaited return to San Antonio to face off against his former franchise. He played a crucial role in the franchise's fifth NBA Finals win in 2014. Leonard reportedly demanded the trade.

There were also chants of "Traitor!" and "Quitter!" that at one point seemed to cause Leonard to step back from the free throw line and compose himself.

Following the Raptors' 125-107 loss to San Antonio, Leonard said he knew he would be booed because of the way he has been portrayed in the media.

DeMar DeRozan prepared for a Toronto Raptors game that would once again require him to perform at a high level.

And while Leonard did scored 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting, the Raptors' three-game winning streak came to an end in front of a raucous, hostile crowd.

"I felt badly about it", Popovich told ESPN about how Leonard was treated by the Spurs fans. And things I felt like he could work on to become even a better player. 'Media does a great mind to stir people's minds and to influence them to think a certain way. Leonard's Raptors still hold the superior record at 28-12 and are tied atop the Eastern Conference rankings with the emergent Milwaukee Bucks.
