Will step down from hosting 2019 Oscars, says comedian Kevin Hart

Even though Hart is now deleting the offending tweets, one imagines he hasn't had a change of, ahem, heart about them.

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis slammed actor-comedian Kevin Hart's response to his resurfaced homophobic tweets.

The editor for The Guardian published a series of tweets from the comedian that expressed his fear of having a gay son who played with dollhouses and other female-oriented toys.

Hart announced the decision on Twitter, saying that he didn't want to be a "distraction", and (finally) apologising to the LGBTQ community.

Director Brett Ratner resigned as a producer of the Oscars in 2011 after he used an anti-gay slur (the very same one that Hart employed so often).

Rodriguez thinks Hart should still host the Oscars. Hart is now touring Sydney, Australia.

The controversy only ballooned from there on social media, and by Thursday afternoon, Hart responded to it in two videos posted to his Instagram account. He chose the later, but went onto to apologize in his own terms anyway.

Hart said that he passed on that apology because he has "addressed this several times".

"I'm thankful and appreciative of the opportunity".

Kevin Hart attends the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall on 20 August 2018 in New York City.

The Hollywood star was confirmed as the host of the Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, on Tuesday. Hopefully someone who won't offend. We're just supposed to assume he's changed because he's older, as if there's no such thing as a 40-year-old homophobe? There's still time to fix the situation. Hart said the tweets were from almost a decade ago and that he has matured since then.

"I swear man, our world is becoming beyond insane", begins Hart in his response.

Hart continued, "My team calls me, 'Oh my God, Kevin, the world is upset about tweets you did years ago.' Oh my God. I'm talking about the tweets from 2009 and 2010", the 39-year-old comedian said. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify or explain their past, then do you.

Hart, who is African-American, would have been one of just a handful of black Oscar hosts over the past 90 years, including Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg and Sammy Davis Jr. "I'm in a completely different space in my life".
