Migrant children appear to be dropping over the border wall.

The border crossing - which Tijuana residents use to reach jobs and shopping on the US side and USA tourists use to head south - was closed briefly last weekend after some migrants tried to rush across.

McAleenan noted that the migrants' confusion at the border has left many desperately looking for a way to cross the border illegally.

Since mid-October, thousands of Central Americans, mostly from Honduras, have traveled north through Mexico in a caravan, some walking much of the long trek. He helped the adults over the fence and then was caught on camera dropping a two-year-old and a seven-year-old over the fence to the family below on the US side, Homeland Security said.

On a typical day before the caravan arrived in Tijuana, U.S. border patrol agents in the San Diego area detained about 120 or so people trying to cross the border illegally from Mexico.

"We're just observing, waiting to see what happens", Mayeni said. "We've got over 7,000 migrants there".

But about 90 minutes later, she and her children were seen on the USA side of the border, according to the report.

Children who crossed the border illegally into San Ysidro, Calif., wait under detention from U.S. Border Patrol on Sunday.

As the migrants wait, some 1,700 from the caravan have been moved to a stronger shelter in Tijuana, after rains ruined makeshift tents, soaked blankets, soiled personal possessions and turned the sports stadium where they had been camped into a health risk.

Ms. Johnson reports, the U.S. Border Patrol's San Diego Sector is reportedly one of the most active in the nation.

He has sent troops to the border and issued an order denying the possibility of asylum to migrants crossing the southern border illegally - but that order has since been halted by a United States federal judge. "They were brought to the border by a group that told them they would be able to cross easily into the U.S.to present asylum claims, and that's not the case".

About 6,000 migrants were staying in an overcrowded shelter that authorities closed over the weekend, moving people instead to a former concert venue farther from the border.

The child that suffered a facial injury was treated by border patrol agents, according to CBP. Mexican authorities arrested and deported those they considered responsible for compromising the city's commitment to public order.
