Wilder retains WBC title after contentious draw with Fury

Inside the Staples Center (9 p.m. ET, Showtime PPV), WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will defend his title against former lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

The ring is ready for Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to clash in the WBC Belt heavyweight title fight this afternoon.

The three judges were divided on the outcome, with one scoring it 115-111 for Wilder, another 114-110 for Fury and the third 113-113.

"As long as I'm focused for the full duration of the fight, I don't see him landing any punches at all", Fury said.

A punch to the top of Fury's head shockingly put him down in the ninth, but he bounced up quickly. Lying helpless on the canvas, Fury looked concussed but, remarkably, Fury rose to beat the count and convinced referee Jack Reiss to let him continue.

A cocktail party has also been organised for the two families, relatives and friends before the big day. The couples were surrounded by fans and paparazzi as they came out of the airport.

The two undefeated heavyweights have combined for 58 knockouts in their 67 career fights, with Deontay Wilder holding the majority of those finishes with 39.

Wilder scored two knockdowns and thought he won. "I came out slow". A hard overhand right to the side of Fury's head dropped the Englishman for the first time in the fight.

In the ninth, Wilder found success when he walked the challenger down, landing with a right that put Fury on the backseat of his trousers.

Fury went right back to work in the next two rounds, and a decision appeared to be in reach. At the end of the round, and following Wilder's usual late flurry, the two became entangled, Fury taking the chance to mock his man with severely odd tongue movements. Everyone from Chadwick Boseman, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Shaquille O'Neal to boxing stars Gennady Golovkin and Mikey Garcia gathered for the marquee heavyweight bout. Hurd (23-0, 16 KOs) overcame early trouble and floored the English challenger with one devastating right to the body.

The 10-8 round proved crucial in the final reckoning, though.
