Skype audio and video calling is now available on Alexa-powered devices, the latest integration to come out of the alliance between Amazon and Microsoft forged a year ago. This means 100 minutes of global calling per month for two months.

To that second point, Microsoft has just announced that Skype calling is now available via Alexa, with Amazon's Echo hardware supporting basic Skype calling. Once enabled, you'll be able to start Skype calls by using phrases like "Alexa, Skype mom" or "Alexa, call dad on Skype". To set up Skype on your Alexa device, you can use the Amazon Alexa app for Android or iOS. This adds to the users' ease as they can make a call without touching their smartphones.

The Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo Dot can be used to make hands-free Skype voice calls whenever Alexa and Skype are available.

To setup Skype calling on Alexa, you'll need to open the Alexa app and go to Menu Settings Communication. Additionally, video calling support for Skype is coming to Amazon's Echo Show, the company's speaker that also sports a display.

Like Alexa's built-in voice calling feature, the Skype skill will only be offered in just a handful of countries at launch - but, thankfully, the US, UK, India, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are all on the list. It has been recommended that users should be on Skype version 8.34 or later.
