Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractures 3 ribs in fall


Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalized following a fall in her office. According to a statement from the Supreme Court, doctors admitted Ginsburg for further "observation and treatment". She previously had two bouts with cancer and had a stent placed to open a blocked artery in 2014.

More details to follow ... Ginsburg was hospitalized Thursday morning for three broken ribs.

It means Ms Ginsburg will not be present for Thursday's investiture of new Supreme Court judge Brett Kavanaugh, whose appointment led to protests following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Ginsburg leads the court's liberal wing. She has also reportedly hired law clerks through 2020, sending the message that she plans on sticking around.

Appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993, Ginsburg rebuffed suggestions from some liberals that she should step down in the first two years of President Barack Obama's second term, when Democrats also controlled the Senate and would have been likely to confirm her successor. She later apologized for what she said were inappropriate remarks.
