Tuesday's election in Washington could mirror 2016 turnout

Amid the busy final day of absentee voting on Monday, Sumter County's top elections official offered pointers for voters to avoid lengthy lines at precincts in today's General Midterm Election.

The figures bode well for Election Day turnout on Tuesday.

"In the 2016 president election, we had 1,700", Brooke County Clerk Sylvia Benzo said. Elected officials are begging voters to courageous the storm, whether that means rainy conditions or any issues at polling places to cast their votes.

"Allowing one of the candidates to not just preside over their own election but misuse their office to give them an unfair advantage is just anti-democratic and unlawful", former Department of Justice Voting Rights Section attorney Bryan L. Sells, one of the attorneys representing the Georgia voters in their suit.

In Marshall County, 850 voted early in the primary election.

In one IN county, voting was snarled for hours because of what election officials said were computer problems checking IN voters, while IN another part of the state a judge ordered 12 polling places to stay open late after voting didn't start as scheduled.

"It's always more hard when more voters show up", McDonald said. Just last week, a judge ruled that new citizens whose voter registrations were flagged under the state's "exact match" law should be permitted to vote.

In 2014, Washington state voter turnout was 54.16.

The strength of the under-30 voting bloc also extends beyond the vote share, to the sheer number of voters in several states. The report says the most common reasons given by nonvoters who didn't cast a ballot were that they were too busy, or had work schedule conflicts.
