Trump speaks by phone with China's Xi on trade

Bloomberg reported on Monday that the United States is preparing to announce tariffs on all remaining Chinese imports by early December if talks next month between presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping fail to ease the trade war.

President Trump said a deal with China would also be good for Beijing.

A telephone call between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump might have increased the possibility of a truce in the trade war, but the strategic dispute between Beijing and Washington is a long way from being resolved, according to a Chinese government adviser and other observers.

"Those discussions are moving along nicely", Trump wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

Neither leader specified any details of potential progress in their first known direct discussion in several months. If the policy talks go well, then we'll have a much better situation.

The United States has imposed tariffs on $250-B worth of Chinese goods so far, while China has retaliated with $110-B worth of tariffs on U.S. goods.
