Blizzard has just announced that the next Diablo game will be a mobile game. I don't care. With more awesome games in the world than I will ever have time to play, the existence of a game I simply don't want to play means little to me.
At BlizzCon today, Blizzard Entertainment unveiled the next game in the storied Diablo franchise, Diablo Immortal, a mobile massively multiplayer online action-role-playing game for Android and iOS devices. In time-old internet fashion, they've resorted to a flurry of mocking and angry threads across Twitter and Reddit, as well as smashing that dislike button on YouTube.
When Diablo Immortal was revealed at BlizzCon on Friday, I thought it looked cool. No, because you understand that those two things would be made by two different teams and Blizzard isn't obligated to make you a new real-time strategy Warcraft game.
Six character classes will be available - Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard - with more planned in future updates. Characters will be remodelled, a new UI will be designed, every map will be redone and Blizzard will include a remastered world editor. If somehow you've managed to avoid getting this pivotal event in Warcraft lore spoiled for you in the 16 years since Warcraft III's release, we won't break your streak, but you probably shouldn't watch the trailer below. However, it's been over a decade since we've seen a return to the franchise.

If you're a Diablo 3 fan and haven't been living under a rock these past few months then you are probably aware of the upcoming Switch release to kick off BlizzCon 2018. Razer recently launched its second generation Razer Phone 2, and ASUS recently got in on the action as well with its ROG Phone (which we're in the process of reviewing, so stay tuned). The technology is there on mobile devices so there is no reason why Immortal can't be an impressive experience. The company has been working with Blizzard for nearly 10 years to license many of Blizzard's games in China.
Diablo: Immortal - which Blizzard is co-developing with NetEase - is no mere port of any previous Diablo PC or console game.
