One of the detainees was Amy Schumer. In a video shared widely on Twitter, Schumer said "I think we're going to get arrested".

Capitol Police said they arrested 302 people during the demonstrations. This website is not intended for users located within the European Economic Area. "Men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power", Ratajkowski tweeted.

Thousands more filled the streets of Capitol Hill, chanting slogans and holding signs to protest Kavanaugh.

A group of people protesting the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court got detained today and among the group is comedian and activist Amy Schumer.

MSNBC posted clips of police officers escorting protesters out of the Hart Senate Office Building atrium.

It comes as Mr Kavanaugh is looking increasingly likely to be confirmed to the top United States court, despite the sexual assault allegations made against him by Dr Christine Blasey Ford and two other women. They'll need at least 50 votes in favor of Kavanaugh in order to appoint him to the Supreme Court, with Vice President Mike Pence on call to break a potential tie.

Schumer told a CNN producer that she was arrested. She responded while being taken away, "Yes".

"Bravery is contagious", "Stop Kavanaugh,", "Kavanaugh has to go", and "We don't want rapists in court", were the most recurring slogans during the march. "At this point, opposing Kavanaugh is not about a political party.it's about ensuring that women-people-of every political party are safe".

"We had folks who were in line today getting arrested who saw Roe v. Wade happen", she said.

Kavanaugh has testified and denied sexually assaulting California College Professor Christine Blasey Ford in high school when they were teenagers.

It comes as the chairman of the Senate judiciary committee says the FBI found "no hint of misconduct" in its investigation into Mr Kavanaugh.
