We Did It: Congress On Cancellation Of India-Pak Talks

Earlier on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar had confirmed that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be meeting her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in NY.

The Modi government, which is facing the Congress-led opposition's charge of double standards on Pakistan, Friday evening called off foreign minister-level talks in NY next week, citing the "brutal killings" of Indian security personnel and the release of 20 postage stamps "glorifying a terrorist".

Earlier, the Congress had slammed the government for agreeing for the meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session next week. One of the issues that will come up during the discussions is India's demand for Pakistan to open up the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara corridor for Sikh pilgrims from the Indian state of Punjab.

The meet was to take place later this month.

Sushma Swaraj had met the then Pakistan's Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad in 2015 and two chose to resume the comprehensive dialogue process.

"I really can't say much on this matter except to say that the External Affairs Minister's schedules are being prepared. So we are not in a position to comment on any individual meeting she may or may not have", the source said.

The meeting of the foreign ministers would also be taking place after Indian defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman had stated that Indian army, just like their Pakistani counterparts, was also quietly "cutting off" heads of Pakistani soldiers.

Cristiano Ronaldo sent off in Champions League game
Pjanic stepped up for both spot-kicks and scored both, the first on the stroke of half-time, the next six minutes after. Ronaldo looked baffled and kept protesting his innocence, briefly laying on the ground to express his disbelief.

Meanwhile, in yet another dastardly act Pakistani troops have slit the throat of a BSF jawan head constable Narendra Kumar along the global border near Jammu. "The date will be decided through consultations", Kumar further said.

The spokesperson played down hopes of a full resumption in talks between the neighbours.

"Our permanent missions will get in touch with each other to work out how and when the meeting will take place", Kumar added.

There is also a stalemate on the issue of opening the Kartarpur corridor for helping pilgrims visit the esteemed Gurudwara, located about 120 KM from Pakistan.

Kumar confirmed that Akali leader and minister for food processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal wrote to Swaraj on this issue.

The Indian government's accepted Pakistani PM Imran Khan's proposal. A Pakistani senator took a swipe at India for "running from talks".

In the letter, Mr. Khan also suggested that the two Foreign Ministers could discuss the holding of the SAARC summit in Islamabad, which has been delayed due to India's reluctance to join.
