FLORENCE AFTERMATH: New evacuations ordered in South Carolina due to flooding


Although Hurricane Florence has long since departed, the severe effects of the storm were still felt along the Carolina coast Thursday. Residents in New Hanover County and neighboring Pender and Brunswick counties were warned Tuesday not to come home because some routes could flood again and sinkholes were developing under some submerged roads.

President Trump will visit North Carolina on Wednesday to view areas affected by the storm, and Bender said said the president "absolutely" needs to visit Pollocksville and other small towns.

The stretch of the Cape Fear River winding through this county roughly 85 miles (135 kilometers) from the coast was expected to crest Tuesday at 62 feet (19 meters) - 27 feet (8 meters) over its flood stage.
