Military solution in Syria's Idlib 'will cause catastrophe': Turkey FM

As a Syrian army attack looks imminent on Idlib on the Turkish border, Turkey's foreign and defense ministers met on Friday with their Russian counterparts in Moscow in a bid to deter an offensive on the province.

A senior Russian official warned the United States on Saturday against making any "reckless" moves in Syria, the RIA news agency reported.

United States have information that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may again use chemical weapons during the capture of one of the districts of the country, which is held by the rebels.

"This year has seen the largest movement of displaced people since the beginning of the conflict and. the entire worldwide community has warned of the risks of a major humanitarian and migratory crisis in the event of an offensive against the province of Idlib", Von der Muhll said.

Syrian forces, backed by Russian air power, have been deploying around Idlib and waging air raids and artillery attacks in what appears to be preparations for a major assault that Assad has promised in order to retake the province.

Turkey, Russia and Iran have mediated cease-fire deals in several areas in Syria, including Idlib.

Russia, Turkey and Iran have held talks under the Astana peace process launched a year ago and agreed to create four "de-escalation" zones to pave the way for a nationwide ceasefire.
