Luke Shaw: Jose Mourinho told us Tottenham weren't unsafe

The only thing that might save Mourinho is United's run of eminently winnable league games: Burnley, Watford, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United and Newcastle United comprise the next five fixtures.

With his team trailing by three goals and Old Trafford rapidly emptying around him, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho stood in his technical area and stared blankly on to the field. Except, you know, that problematic final score.

He stormed out of his postgame news conference after saying he had won more Premier League titles than all the other active managers combined, and repeating the word "respect" over and over as he left the room.

United face Burnley, who have one point from their first three games, at Turf Moor on Sunday before the two-week worldwide break, then will face Watford at Vicarage Road on September 15.

"They have the quality, they just have to keep pushing", former Manchester United and England global Rooney told CNN Sport's Patrick Snell. In his second, Real won the La Liga crown for the first time in four years, setting the record for season wins.

Lucas Moura was the star, scoring two second half goals which highlighted why Spurs signed him from Paris Saint-Germain in January.

In an effort to combat such a situation unraveling again, Manchester United have been busy making some changes to the layout of things behind the scenes in Old Trafford.

Tottenham fans had chanted "You're getting sacked (fired) in the morning".

Mourinho has welcomed three players to his squad over the summer - Brazil midfielder Fred for $60 million, Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot ($24 million) and third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant ($2 million) - but the United manager has been unhappy that the club didn't sign a central defender.

This is just the second season in Premier League history that United has lost more than one of its opening three matches.

The latest, a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham, was a disappointing and worrisome answer to a shock 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion the week before.

"Whenever you're playing in these games away from home the first goal is so important", Kane told Sky Sports.

Shortly after halftime, Spurs punished some feeble defending.

Mourinho, 55, has come under fire in recent weeks, not only for his team's mediocre start to the season - including a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on August 19 - but also for a number of reported fallouts with the club hierarchy and key players.

"Like I said, I am sorry for the fans, not just the ones here but the ones at home that have been watching and supporting us".
