"I wouldn't mind Idris Elba as the new bond I guess, except that he's way too old!"

Despite the entire WhatCulture office - and most of you, probably - demanding that I be cast as the next Bond, producers might actually be honing in on some else to play the role.

While the future of Bond is uncertain, the next film in the franchise will be the anticipated Bond 25, which will also be Daniel Craig's final film in the vaunted role.

Elba has previously been mentioned as a possible 007, and was said to have been the favourite of then Sony chief Amy Pascal according to leaked documents from the Sony hack back in 2014.

Indeed, the director seemed to hint that the actor is now being eyed as a strong candidate, adding: "Idris could do it if he was in shape". Idris Elba, star of "Luther", was one of the front-runners, alongside the likes of Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hardy, but Craig previous year signed up for one more film and the question became moot once again.

Fuqua went on to suggest actors who are in the running for the James Bond movie, dropping a really strong hint that their top choice was Idris Elba.

While the news of Elba taking the role has not been confirmed, a report by CNN refutes the comments made by Fuqua.

Fans have been asking for Idris Elba to play James Bond for almost four years, and it looks like the "Luther" star might finally get his moment. Elba said when speaking with Variety.
