Suspected Houston-area serial killer, wanted in at least three deaths, captured

Rodriguez, 46, is suspected in at least two of three Houston-area homicides over the past week.

Jose Gilberto Rodriguez was arrested at Eldridge and Fallbrook after a brief police chase Tuesday morning.

They said they believe he is connected to that case, a murder at a Mattress Firm off of 1960, a murder at a home in Cypress, an aggravated assault against a METRO Lift bus driver and a home invasion back on July 9.

Police have arrested a possible serial killer suspect in Houston. Deputies reportedly found a gun inside the Nissan.

The Houston police chief expressed frustration during the conference with the low bonds, if any, that were being ordered for violent criminals who violate paroles in the Houston area and across Texas.

Other vehicles used in the crime spree were also dumped at the mall, police said.

"Let's get this man off the street as soon as possible", Acevedo posted on Twitter.

Surveillance video released Monday night shows Rodriguez walking through the Willowbrook Mall on Saturday, after parking the victim's vehicle.

He is now expected to face multiple charges of capital murder, armed robbery, and home invasion.

"We have serious concerns that this individual will strike again", Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. But cops say the rampage turned deadly just days later, when the sex offender and known gang member killed 62-year-old Pamela Johnson. He said Rodriguez may have been looking for someone. Rodriguez has been charged with two counts of capital murder for Johnson's death and the mattress store attack, officials said Tuesday.

A Clikc2Houston cameraman happened to capture the moment that police caught up with Rodriguez. Police said Johnson had been shot to death and her vehicle was stolen.

"There's not enough law enforcement officers that are focusing on parolees", Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo told a news conference.

Allie Barrow, 28, was shot dead at a mattress store where she worked.

A man linked to three fatal shootings since Friday has been captured by Harris County authorities.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Rodriguez was living in a halfway house, and was working at a nearby Tyson factory, before he disappeared from the house last week and never returned. Authorities say Rodriguez should be considered extremely risky and possibly armed and should not be engaged if you encounter him.

That same day, a METROLift driver was robbed and shot near a gas station, where the man was able to get help for himself, authorities said. He survived and was rushed to an area hospital.
