Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in England in 2016-17 and followed up that achievement with the FA Cup triumph this year, but his relationship with the board became damaged beyond fix, highlighted by his repeated public and private complaints about transfer policy.

The 48-year-old former Italy coach has a year remaining on his current contract and has already taken charge of pre-season preparations at the club's Cobham training ground.

Chelsea have finally relieved Antonio Conte of his duties as manager.

"Thank you boss. Great man, great manager".

In any event, the working relationship between Conte and Chelsea is over - as soon as that is made public by the club, the appointment of Sarri, with Blues legend Gianfranco Zola as part of the backroom team, will nearly certainly follow shortly after.

Sarri has also presented a list of players he would like to sign.
