Four Boys Brought Out From Thai Cave as Rescue Efforts Continue

At the time Trump tweeted reports indicated that four to six of the boys had been rescued from the cave.

The rescue mission had called today "D-Day" because the water was at its lowest since the boys were discovered and heavy rains were forecast for later this week, giving them only four days to get all the boys out. The team of young soccer players, ages 11-16, and their 25-year-old coach were stranded in the caves for almost 10 days due to flooding and their constantly evolving rescue has continued to make news headlines around the world.

A source at the Chiang Rai hospital said that five emergency response doctors were awaiting the boys and a further 30 doctors were on stand-by.

Authorities in northern Chiang Rai province began the unsafe mission to bring out the 12 boys and their coach earlier on Sunday.

"Today was the best situation - in terms of the children's health, water and our rescue readiness", said Mr Narongsak, now governor of Phayao province but still head of the joint command centre coordinating the rescue.

The unpredictable threat of more monsoonal rain has prompted Thai authorities to work faster in their bid to rescue the remaining boys trapped in a cave.

And remember - a lot of this cave is still flooded, which means some treacherous conditions for novice divers, like these boys are, even though they're being shepherded by two divers each, and there are ropes to guide them along the way. The same process was used Sunday for at least one of the four boys rescued in the first attempt at getting the 12 boys and their coach out of the underground cave complex. Per the Bangkok Post, the boys have been split up into four groups. Narongsak Osottanakorn, the commander of search and rescue said, "If it rains and the water volume increases, we have to calculate, how much time do we have?"

Eight members of the soccer team, ages 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach remain trapped in the cave.

Less than an hour after the helicopter took off, Thai public television aired live video of a medivac helicopter landing close to a hospital in the city of Chiang Rai, around 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the cave.

The perilous rescue operation to bring back 12 boys and their football coach through a flooded Thai cave network is part way complete, but what is the confined underwater ordeal like for the boys with no diving experience?

Ambulances were seen racing from the cave site and the road had been cleared by authorities to allow a quick route to the provincial hospital. They eventually found a dry landing spot, where they waited for nine days before being found by two British divers.

The boys were trapped in the cave when unexpected rains made their trip out impossible.

"It's unsafe to the most experienced divers to go through", one diver told Reuters.

A multi-pronged rescue effort has been underway since they were found almost a week ago.

The Thai navy SEALS confirmed that four boys have left the cave.
