Nawaz, Maryam to be arrested upon arrival to Pakistan: NAB sources

Pakistan's accountability court on Friday found former prime minister Nawaz Sharif guilty in the Avenfield case, awarding him 10 years rigorous imprisonment for owning assets beyond his means and one additional year for not cooperating with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Sharif resigned as Pakistan prime minister previous year after the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding public office and ruled that graft cases be filed against the beleaguered leader and his children over the Panama Papers scandal.

Friday's rulings can be appealed.

Now both Sharif and his daughter are in London tending to Kulsoom, who is critically ill.

The case pertains to a number of properties against the Sharif family in Avenfield House, Park Lane, London. Nawaz now faces arrest if he returns to the country.

"It is to be seen if this decision is written by a judge or a general", Safdar said.

Sharif, who at times during his premiership appeared to seek a better relationship with Pakistan's arch-enemy India, has since repeatedly accused the military of wanton political interference.
