On Thursday, CNN reported that Trump had hoped to clinch a deal with Putin in Helsinki that would allow for prompt pullout of United States troops from Syria.

Trump's praise of Putin as a strong leader and his stated desire to forge better relations with Russian Federation are of concern to critics.

The Republican president said he would raise the issue of election meddling with Putin as well as Russia's role in Syria and Ukraine.

The tweet reopened the question of whether Trump would broach the issue with Putin during their highly anticipated summit next month in Helsinki.

Despite Trump's stated goal of improving relations with Putin, European allies and neighbors of Russian Federation are wary about Moscow's expansionist ambitions.

Last week, Trump suggested in a tweet that he believed Putin's denials, noting that "Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election!". They fear he may cede too much during their first official summit on July 16 in Helsinki, Finland.

While the meddling allegations have been repeatedly dismissed by both Putin and Trump, they have sparked a special counsel investigation in Washington and multiple congressional investigations which have come to different conclusions. I've said it from day one, getting along with Russian Federation and with China and with everybody is a very good thing.
