Thai boys found, still in danger

In a press conference Wednesday morning, Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osottanakorn said it would be "difficult" to bring them out Wednesday.

"We found them safe".

Vice-chairman Bill Whitehouse said: "It was euphoria for a moment, but it's not going to be easy to get 13 people out of a flooded cave".

A family member shows a picture of four of the twelve missing boys near the Tham Luang cave.

Kian Kamlaung, the mother of 16-year-old Pornchai Kamlaung, said it was like he had been given a new life. She said she would cook her son a Thai fried omelet, his favorite food, when he returns home.

On June 23, the boys and their coach went to explore a cave in northern Thailand after soccer practice.

The Prime Minister's Office says Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha "wishes to thank the tremendous efforts of all global units that have come to assist the Thai authorities in rescuing the youth football team that was stuck in the caves in Chiang Rai".

In the nearly 5-minute clip, the boys are illuminated by torchlight while a diver can be heard speaking to them.

A young player in the foreground wears what appears to be the red England soccer jersey worn by the team in Tuesday's World Cup victory over Colombia in Moscow.

"Thank you", responded one of the boys.

The video then details questions asked by the boys, including when they will be rescued. "10 days. You are very strong".

One of the three British rescuers is heard to say: "Many, many people are coming. we are the first".

"The best option is to leave them where they are and stabilise their environment to make sure the core ingredients are met", said Peter Wolf, the national director of the Cave Divers Association of Australia.

"We haven't eaten in [in Thai]".

Anmar Mirza, a leading American cave rescue expert, said many challenges remain for the rescuers. They will start to be evacuated in about 12 hours.

John Volanthen and Richard "Rick" Stanton are expert cave divers skilled in navigating perilous underwater passages, a colleague says - and they've been called overseas before to help with hard rescues.

But one of the rescuers who found the group said after days without eating or moving, they may not be ready for a dive rescue, even with extensive support.

Mr Stanton and Mr Volanthen, along with a third Briton, Robert Harper, joined the search after Thai authorities sought expert help from the British Cave Rescue Council.

Diver Ben Reymenants, who is assisting with the rescue mission, told the BBC that two Thai navy doctors had volunteered to stay with the boys for "up to four months" until the water receded.

But some of the passages are so narrow that the boys would have to make it through the muddy, pitch-black water alone - and potentially remove their breathing gear - while other sections could require them to dive many feet underground.

Zalmanov said Maxtech had managed to set up a wireless communication system in "almost no time" upon reaching the site. The divers were aiming for a sandy chamber on higher ground in the cave.

"In theory, human beings can last 30 days (without food)", Narongsak told reporters on Monday before the rescue was completed, CBS reported.

According to the Associated Press, rescuers drilled a hole into the side of the cave to try to drain the water, while others attempted to find alternative routes inside.

Efforts to pump out floodwaters are continuing but it's clear that some areas of the sprawling cavern can not be drained, said Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda, a member of Thailand's ruling military junta.

The mountainside was also combed for fissures that might lead to shafts.
