Lonzo Ball talks to LeBron James last season.

The Los Angeles Lakers, as of last night, have reason to be excited about their future.

The Knicks and Lakers have mostly been bad (even very bad) over the last five seasons, but now that the Lakers have landed James - who NY has wanted for a long time - the Knicks are the only marquee franchise without a promising future. That streak has ended at eight years. Also, the Sixers are obviously aiming to win a championship next season, would it be beneficial to add more young players with little-to-no playoff experience?

The Los Angeles Lakers needed to matter again, so they had no choice but to convince LeBron James to join their team.

Maybe the Warriors win another title this coming season but maintaining a championship run will be more challenging after that.

The scenario I've outlined where the Lakers sign nothing but one-year deals this summer would leave L.A. with something like $25 million in cap space in 2019 with Deng on the books.

But Republicans were twice as likely to say it's the right amount of partisan - 22% to Democrats' 11% and independents' 10%. The justice's decision, to be effective on July 31, gives President Donald Trump the second chance to nominate a justice.

So, while Stephenson has trolled James dating back to their battles in the Eastern Conference Finals when James was with the Heat, it appears as though all those moments are in the past.

What if Kawhi goes to Philly, or Boston, enjoys his experience, makes it to the Finals, sees a young team with a long stretch of true championship contention ahead of them, and reconsiders his desire to end up with the Lakers? The latter two have partial guarantees on their contracts that season.

Not just Magic Johnson, Lakers' president of basketball operations.

With the simple agreement to sign, LeBron has catapulted the most storied franchise back into relevancy.

Cleveland was unceremoniously swept by the Golden State Warriors in the 2018 NBA Finals.

By leaving the NBA's much weaker East, LeBron has entered a Western Conference loaded with talent, making it much harder for him to keep his finals streak alive.

The move marks the first time the three-time National Basketball Association champion and four-time MVP will play for a team in the hotly contested western conference, which includes heavyweight teams such as the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets. He agreed to a four-year deal worth $137 million without even taking a meeting with the Lakers, the franchise with whom he'd publicly flirted for a year and a half.
