IOS 12 public beta is now available

Apple announced its new iOS 12 operating system earlier this month, and the public beta became available Monday.

In all honesty, iOS 12 beta 1 was extremely stable, so we expect this to be a seamless and impressive development period ahead of September release.

Apple has released iOS 12 and tvOS 12 public betas. But if you do want to download it on your main device, keep in mind to back it up first - you do not want to lose your precious data. While iOS 12 does have a lot of new features to play with, just be mindful of software bugs.

Once downloaded, go to General Software Update (in the Settings app) and wait for the iOS 12 public beta prompt to appear.

Again though, it's a beta, and you should proceed with caution.

The final build of iOS 12 is expected to drop in the fall. Apple is introducing Memoji on the iPhone X. It's a customized avatar that you can use in iMessage and FaceTime to represent you. For the full overview of iOS 12, check out our in-depth overview of everything that is new.

Do note you may not want to install betas on your day-to-day devices, as there are still some bugs related to beta software.

But the iOS 12 beta does include Apple's new Screen Time tools, for monitoring how often you use certain apps, how often you pick up your phone and various other useful bits of information. Press the "Download and Install button".

As advised before downloading any beta OS, backup all the data on your device.

During the beta period, releases are seeded rather quickly at first, and then begin to taper off toward the alpha release date. Screen Time also lets users limit access to specific apps.

If you have a spare iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then you can easily download the public beta and try it now for free. Though Apple was able to polish out quite some things in its latest release but the software is still in its infancy.
