Oppo Find X Ditches Display Notch With Motorized Pop-Up Camera System

Compared to the marketed number of 93.8 percent, we find that the real screen-to-body ratio is 92.25 percent.

The OPPO Find X will retail for €999 when it hits the shelves in Europe. The event is set to be held on July 12, and the Oppo Find X is largely expected to be launched in the country. There's no word on whether it will launch in the United Kingdom. Around front, there's a single 25MP selfie camera. We went from candybar phones to clamshells, to sliders, back to the candybar (with every smartphone following that framework), and then in the pursuit to have bezel-less displays, phones are revising the slider format to hide elements like the front-facing camera. Oppo claims the camera launches in 0.5 seconds, something that TheVerge agrees is "fairly accurate". That is because the Find X doesn't have a fingerprint scanner. When this part of the phone slides out, it not only reveals the front camera and 3D face scanning sensors for unlocking the phone, it also reveals the dual rear cameras and LED flash. I didn't have as much time as I'd have liked to test them out at the unveiling, but the few shots I took in the dark, bulb-lit testing environment looked good with plenty of detail. While the notch has become a staple trend as of late, OPPO appears to be taking a different route with its latest handset, which some will hopefully appreciate. The intention here is to take the best possible picture of whatever's in the frame, be it a waterfall or a plate of food. In a world full of glass-and-metal-slab smartphones, it's a pleasant reminder of the more unusual days where manufacturers flirted with unusual form-factors.

The Chinese smartphone maker confirmed the news on its official Weibo account with a photo of the Find X above which was written 9_._% screen-to-body ratio.

Internally the phone is, like the leaks suggested, using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, and has 256GB of on-board storage. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with Oppo's Color OS skin.

Oppo Find X will make its global debut on June 19. The phone will also be delivered in a special edition packaging, with special edition yellow coloured braided USB cable.

It will be powered by a 3,730 mAh battery that can be completely charged in all of 30 minutes. We've been hands on with the handset at its Paris launch to find out. This basically offers up to two hours of talktime with just five minutes of charging.

Oppo will allow users to watch the live unveiling of the Find X from the comfort of the couch. Whether or not Oppo's implementation is as good as Apple's Face ID system still remains to be seen.
