The previous holder of this record, Pixar's Finding Dory, opened with $135 million.

The sequel to 2004's The Incredibles, Incredibles 2 continues the story of the family of Incredibles.

The film made a stunning $180 million over the weekend in USA, which is the biggest ever opening for animated movie by some distance. The huge number also gives the movie the fifth-highest opening weekend for any superhero film, after Avengers: Infinity War ($257.6 million), Marvel's The Avengers ($207.4 million), Black Panther ($202 million), and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.2 million). "We had a film that had something for all ages".

Brad Bird wrote and directed the sequel, and he now has to his name the largest opening ever at the U.S. box office.

"Incredibles 2" comes 14 years after "The Incredibles", which at the time boasted one of the biggest animated openings ever, and picks up right where the first film left off with the superhero family.

Now it's the tournament and we have to focus on the tournament. "We want to go in for every tackle and win every balls and dictate and control the game".

"This is one of the biggest over-performances I've ever seen", said comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

Director Brad Bird - who also provides the voice of Edna Mode - has hinted that a third film could be coming, as delays to production meant certain aspects that he and his team came up with for "The Incredibles 2" were ultimately not able to be used.

There is, however, a demographic that didn't likely make it to the theaters last weekend.

Incredibles 2 was helped by a lack of competition from other new movies this weekend. Sony's Superfly, which opened on Wednesday, is expected to bring in up to $8 million for its five-day opening.

Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures' women-led heist comedy film "Ocean's 8" moved to second place with an estimated 19.55 million dollars in its second weekend. Could we be looking at a billion-dollar final figure?
