The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is a selfie centric device and it is a rebranded Redmi S2, that was launched in China earlier. To put the improvements of MIUI 10 to the test and provide some real-world quantitative comparison, Xiaomi compared the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo in a speed test. The big difference between the two is that Xiaomi's latest device has a plastic body instead of the metal on the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

However, starting at Rs 9,999 with the top-end variant retailing for Rs 12,999, Xiaomi's new offering comes in at a very attractive price. While one of the devices sports a notch, the other does not have the feature.

Pitted against the Note 5, the Y2 is in for an interesting fight ahead.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 uses pixel binning technique (merging pixelsto reduce image noise) for taking brighter low selfies. Powering all this is a 3080 mAh battery, however, this is a little less considering how much power this the hardware is going to consume.

While it might seem like the launch of just another phone, this launch is important for Xiaomi's future. The design itself is slightly altered, and the antenna bands no longer intersect the camera module. It is powered by the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. Whether be it the placement of vertically-aligned dual rear cameras or the front panel, the phone looks a tad similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The ICICI offer is only available on the first sale of the phone on Mi.com and Amazon India.
